Out of the Dark Blog Tou

Raechel here for a moment – I will be passing off the “mic” here to MacKenzie in just a second, but first I  wanted to say how excited I am for this book!! “Out of the Dark” has been an eagerly anticipated novel, and it’s finally here! So thrilling. And inspiring – I’ve watched as this author has poured out her heart in this novel, sometimes struggling when the words didn’t come. But God has brought it to completion, as He promises, and how utterly glorious that is! If you haven’t read the first book in this series, I definitely encourage you to do so. You can find “Not Abandoned” here. Anyway, now I will let our lovely author take the stage, and share more about “Out of the Dark”!! Out of the Dark

Welcome to the “Out of the Dark” blog tour! I’m so thankful Rae is letting me share her blog to share with all of you about my new book release. “Out of the Dark” is book two in my Mission for Freedom series and is a continuation of my debut novel “Not Abandoned”. I faced mountains of opposition during the writing of this book, and have even felt attacks from the enemy right up to release day. But I believe God is going to do great things through this story, and my prayer is that He will use it to touch each of your lives. But enough of my rambling! It’s not over yet…

It’s been three years since Haley Hampton rescued her sister, Avery, from a human trafficking ring. They are still struggling through the aftermath as both women desperately long for healing to come. But the emotional wounds are not easily forgotten. And the past is quickly catching up to them. A string of death threats leaves Haley on the hunt for a potential killer. As tensions run high, a single mistake could jeopardize Avery’s life.

Then Haley encounters Elaine, a young teen trapped by human trafficking. Could she be their missing link in the case? Is there anyone they can trust? Haley must rely on God now more than ever if they intend to make it out alive. Will they find a way out of the darkness closing in? Because evil is lurking closer…and determined to win this time.

Character Spotlight:

Avery Hampton

Avery is back in “Out of the Dark” as a twenty year old survivor of human trafficking. But she’s been through terrible pain and her heart is covered with emotional scars. In “Out of the Dark” we see Avery as a strong young woman who doesn’t feel very strong inside. She’s allowed God to use her to begin a ministry for other human trafficking victims, and she’s very proud of the safehouse she built, Redemption House. Her heart desires to save other victims, but she thinks she’s not as brave or confident as her older sister, Haley, is. (Psst, between you and me, I think Avery is one of the bravest characters I’ve met!) She tries to appear confident and whole, but inside she’s still struggling and has broken pieces. Part of her thinks she’s beyond repair, but the other part of her is still reaching out in hope that God can fulfill His promises to her and heal her and pull her out of the darkness she finds herself in. Avery is a fighter. But she’s getting tired and worried she’ll never make it out of the shadow of her past. But God will never give up on our Avery. And I believe in her. What about you?

*There will also be a spotlight of Haley Hampton in the wrap-up post so be sure to return and read that then!

Author Interview with MacKenzie Morganthal, author of “Not Abandoned”

Hello Readers! I hope you had a good Independence day and weekend. =) Did any of you get to see any fireworks? I was house-sitting, so I didn’t see any on the 4th, but our town puts on fireworks this next weekend along with their parade. So I’ll see those, most likely! :)

Today I have a special treat. My lovely and talented kindred spirit, MacKenzie Morganthal, has agreed to do an author-interview with me today! Isn’t that exciting? I am really glad you guys can get to know this gal – she is someone I hold as dear as a sister to me. So, without further delay, please enjoy this interview with…MacKenzie Morganthal, author of her newly released, “Not Abandoned”!

Welcome back to my blog, Miss MacKenzie! I’m truly delighted to have you here for this interview. :) I know you’ve been here before, and have thus shared a bit about yourself, but in case anyone is reading this for the first time, would you please introduce yourself?

Thanks for having me back, Rae! :) Sure, I’d love to. I’m an eighteen year old, homeschool graduate, and I love to write pretty much anything. I love the Lord with all my heart and have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. When I’m not writing, I love to keep busy as a worship leader and Creative Artist. My debut novel “Not Abandoned” just came out at the end of May, and that was a huge dream come true for me! :)

Amen! It is a dream come true indeed, and I am so happy for you!

How long have you been writing for and what first spurred you on to write?

I’ve been writing for around eight years. My Mom is actually the one who first encouraged me to write. She gave me an assignment in about 4th grade to write a short story about what I was learning in history. If you can believe it, I didn’t really want to do the assignment at first! But my Mom kept encouraging me to do it, and once it was completed, I fell in love with writing. So I’ve been writing ever since and I have my Mom to thank for that ;)

Your new debut book, “Not Abandoned” is about the heavy subject of human trafficking; where and how did you first find out about this terrible crime?

I first found out about human trafficking from my sister. She had read a book discussing this topic and then had shared the information with me. While the news was heartbreaking to hear, it wasn’t until awhile later when I heard an interview with a trafficking survivor that God placed the burning desire in my heart to do something about this atrocity.

Do you have any ‘tips’ for people about how to get involved in putting a stop to this modern-day slavery?

Well, the first tip I would say is definitely to educate yourself. Take time to learn about trafficking and make yourself aware of what is actually happening in the world around us. The first step in stopping modern-day slavery is prevention, and you can’t have prevention without awareness and education. Another tip I have is to get involved with one of the many great organizations fighting against human trafficking. That’s what they’re here for, and they’d love to help get you involved in the fight to end this! One of my favorite organizations is the A21 Campaign. :)

These are really good tips of help – thank you!

How long did it take you to write “Not Abandoned”?

Haha, ya know, I actually can’t remember the ‘exact’ date that I started writing it. How terrible of me. :P When I first started writing it, I didn’t really think it would go anywhere or I would ever even finish it. But a few months after that is when God really placed the desire in my heart to continue with this story. So it was around mid-January of this year when I really started working devotedly on this story, and I completed the first draft on February 23rd. :)

That’s not terrible of you, worry not. I have projects like that. And wow, that’s a fast write, Kenzie! Although, I already knew you were a super fast writer – you got talent girl! God-given talent, and what a blessing it is that you use it for His glory!

Do you have a favourite character from it that you relate to most?

Definitely Haley Hampton, the college student/police officer in training. She’s strong-willed, and very determined. When she sets her mind to something, not much can stand in her way! She’s got a kind heart, and can be a bit daring. She also has a habit of jumping into things without always thinking them through. Most of my friends, especially you Rae, can attest to the fact that I tend to do that too, more often times than not. ;)

Haha, funny. ^.^ And also, Haley’s my favourite character too – she’s a great character!

You self-published: did you experience any troubles going that route, or are you entirely happy with it?

There were definitely some bumps in the road, but in the end I’m entirely happy with my decision. In the beginning of my self-publishing journey, I was trying to mostly go through the process alone and figure everything out myself, and I don’t ever recommend doing that, haha. I got in touch with some awesome authors who have already gone through the process and they were able to help tremendously, which I am so thankful for! So my advice to anyone else going the self-publishing route would be to ask lots of questions and seek help from others who are in the business. It makes it a much better experience than trying to figure it out alone. :)

Good idea – I’m definitely keeping that in mind when I publish too. :)

What are your writing plans for the future?

Right now I am in the process of writing a sequel to “Not Abandoned”. I’m about 72 pages and almost 18,000 words in, so we’ll see where this one goes. :) I also regularly enjoy being a monthly magazine columnist for my sister’s e-mag, and also a bi-monthly columnist for a friend’s e-mag.

Yes!! I cannot wait for this sequel. I love it already (yes, be jealous readers, because I’ve already read some of it! ;)).

Thank you so much for visiting and taking the time to answer these questions, MacKenzie! I wish you a heart-felt congrats on your new release and look forward to many more of your splendid, God-filled books!
Thanks so much, Rae! :)

Blog Tour Wrap Up for “Not Abandoned” by MacKenzie Morganthal

Author MacKenzie Morganthal has written our wrap-up post for her lovely blog tour this past week, with a special sneak peek of her story – read on!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Welcome to the closing post for the “Not Abandoned” blog tour! I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this week, and it has been a blessing for me to see my book highlighted on all these other blogs. It has been a joy for me to give you all a peek into this story that is so close to my heart.

Out of all my “Not Abandoned” characters, Haley Hampton is the one I can relate to the most. (To read her character interview, click here!) She’s strong-willed and determined, and (more often times than not) she jumps into things without always thinking them through. As I was thinking about how to end this tour, I thought it would be fun to include a sneak peek into one of Haley’s scenes in this book:

Okay, I am going to sleep,” Anna said, closing her laptop and standing up. “You should too. You’re letting this affect you way too much. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Haley whipped her head up to stare at her friend. “Not a big deal? Anna, it’s huge. Who knows the heinous acts that this young girl is being forced into tonight? And here I am, a carefree college kid, able to sleep in her nice warm bed and eat a midnight snack.” She tossed her cereal on the counter and walked over to the door. Slipping on a pair of shoes, she called back over her shoulder, her blue eyes piercing through Anna, “I won’t just stand by and do nothing as long as I have the ability to do something.”

This is one of my favorite scenes because Haley’s last sentence is so powerful. I was once challenged to find my passion and the thing that breaks my heart the most, and then let it inconvenience me and make me uncomfortable enough to do something about it. And that challenge is the inspiration behind this scene. It is my prayer that through this book, other people will have the courage to stand up against the injustices in this world and speak the same words that Haley did.

In closing, I’d like to say another huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of this blog tour and to those who have been reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed this as much as I have. ☺

Blog Tour Kick-Off “Not Abandoned” – Guest post by author, MacKenzie Morganthal

Today begins the blog tour for my sister-by-heart’s first published book, “Not Abandoned”! She has written the post to start of this exciting blog tour, so please read on!

*************************

Hello, everyone! I am so excited that today is the first day of my blog tour for “Not Abandoned”! A special thank you to my amazing friend, Rae, for allowing me to start this tour with a guest post on her blog, since I don’t have a blog of my own. :)

As I prepare for this week long blog tour, I think back on the journey of writing and self-publishing that God has brought me through. He has opened so many doors for me through this process, and whenever a door closed, He always gave me a window in its place. I’ve been thinking about this verse a lot lately:

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

He has known of this day even long before I started writing “Not Abandoned”. Through all the long nights of writing, and through the frustrated tears I shed during the editing and publishing process, He was right there already knowing of the beautiful outcome it would have. And He has made this day so amazing for me! Eight years of dreaming about becoming a published author, and now that day is finally here! :)

“Not Abandoned” is a very dear story to my heart because it gives readers a peek into one of my deepest passions. From the day I heard a human trafficking survivor telling her story in an interview, I knew that I had to do something to bring more of an awareness to the subject. It is truly heart breaking to me, and when God told me to write a story dealing with this topic, I was actually terrified of the idea! I wasn’t sure I’d be able to write the story well enough and I really didn’t even have a clear idea of where the story plot was even going. But God guided my hands to write this story, and it turned out so much better than I ever could’ve imagined, thanks to having Him as my co-author.

So because I’m not the greatest at writing things like this, I’m going to end here by saying: Never be afraid to give God your everything. He will always make something beautiful out of it!

Thanks for joining me on this opening post of my first ever blog tour! I hope you’ll stick around the rest of the week to learn more about the story of “Not Abandoned”. :)
