Have you ever had a hard time loving someone? I think everyone probably has at one time in their life. But what would your life be like if you’ve never had the courage to love anyone? Faith Blum explores that idea in her new book, He Hideth My Soul.

About the Book

He’s never had the courage to love anyone…

3D HHMS1The only thing Otis Miller has ever wanted to be is a doctor and he wants to be the best. A surprise talk with his Aunt Eleanor days before his twenty-first birthday leads to a visit from his grandfather’s lawyer and the discovery that he is the heir to a large fortune. With all the papers signed, Otis heads to Chicago to follow his dream.

After graduating from Jenner Medical School, Otis goes to the mine he owns in Colorado to see how things are and to provide medical care for everyone in town. He finds horrible working conditions and learns to make difficult decisions that will be best for all

Will Otis learn to let God cover him in the depths of His love? Can Otis hide in God’s presence whenever he doesn’t know where to go next?

Excerpt

Otis woke up earlier than usual the next morning. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t question it. He grabbed his Bible and the candle on the nightstand and headed out to the back porch.

He sat down on the top step, lit the candle, and held his Bible up to its light. Otis flipped open to the bookmarked passage, or tried to, but it opened up to Galatians five instead. He read the whole chapter, but verses 19˗24 really jumped out at him:

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

“Envyings, wrath, strife, and seditions,” he whispered. “Father, you know how much I envy Joshua and Priscilla and their beautiful family. I’m sorry. I never fully realized how wrong it was. Help me to trust in Your timing for a family of my own.

“I don’t know what’s going on with Joshua and Priscilla, but You do. Help them resolve this issue. If there’s any way I can help, please let me be open and willing.”

He read, studied, and prayed until the candle became useless, then he set the candle and Bible aside and went to the barn to do the chores. If he got really lucky, he could even start the coffee before Priscilla got up.

Blog Tour: “‘Tis So Sweet” by Faith Blum

Trusting God is hard when nothing seems to go right. In Faith’s new book, Eleanor Miller learns that. But will she finally trust God in the end?

About the Book

Trusting God is hard

Eleanor Miller has never lacked for anything, but she wanted to become a schoolteacher anyway to instill the love of learning into other children. Unlike what happened with her brother, Grover.

Grover hated school and authority. He rebelled any change he could. When he almost killed a man, their family was torn apart and he was disowned.

Eleanor understands her father’s decision, but she worries she will never see Grover again. Will she find out how sweet it is to trust Jesus in everything no matter what happens or will she stop trusting Him completely?

All The Way My Savior Leads

About the Book

Caroline and I walked out the back door and went into the barn.
“What are we going to do?” Caroline asked.
“Head out on our own. Saddle Whitey, please.”
Caroline’s mouth gaped open. “They’ll find us.”
“I know.”
Caroline sighed. “What can we do then?”
I shook my head. “We can stick together. Always.”

AlltheWay_KINDLErevisedTragedy stole everything from him … except her …

Three years ago, an illness orphaned Henry and Caroline Salisbury. The harsh years at the orphanage have forged a strong bond between the pair.

But Henry’s about to age out.

He must choose whether to leave his only family behind in relative safety, or take her with him as he pursues dreams of owning a farm. Henry trusts that God has a plan for him, but little does he know that others have plans for him and his younger sister as well. He will need all his faith to find the right path.

Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

GUEST POST:

Why Henry?

My Orphans of the West series is mostly books about orphans I introduced in previous books in the Hymns of the West or Hymns of the West Novellas series’. But Henry Sullivan isn’t in any of those, so why did I write a book about him? A few reasons, actually.

First, the first version of Lily of the Valley had an epilogue that introduced Henry. That made me want to write more, even though I ended up cutting the epilogue. Another reason was because I wanted to write more about Micah, Ruth, and Jeremiah Carson. They were great characters and I didn’t want to leave them where I did.

The main reason, though, is because I could really identify with him. Even though I haven’t gone through anything he has, I have struggled many times with anger at how bad people could do so many awful things and get away with it. Learning to let God lead in all circumstances is a difficult, but rewarding experience.

“Christ Arose” By Faith Blum – Blog Tour

Empty tomb

Faith Blum has a new book! She wrote, edited, and published a short story in just three short days and you can now get it for free! Read on to learn more about it.

About the Book

3D ChristArose

And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

No longer could I say I was lonely. But oh, how I wish I could! Who could have done such a thing to the Creator of the world? Who had so much hatred for Him?

“Savior, Like a Shepherd” by Faith Blum: Blog Tour

slas-release-tour-banner

Have you ever wondered what it was like for orphans born in the Wild West? Faith Blum has a new book that explores the life of three orphans born during that time. She’s with us today to tell us a little about her book, and share a Character Spotlight! Make sure you read to the end to see the super fun giveaway she has going on, too. :)

About the Book

slas-ebook-gray

The ground shook and a rumble sounded through the air as the train squealed to a stop. Maybe, just maybe, I could carry someone’s bags without the porter taking notice. And then there was the even bigger maybe: Maybe I could get enough money to at least buy a crust of bread for Trevor and Tabitha to share.

I hid behind the boxes in the freight yard and kept one eye on the porter, and the other on the second class passenger car. The porter had his attention on the first class car, so I slipped into the gathering crowd.

Titus Hine has always taken care of others. First in protecting his brother and sister from the men his mother entertained. Even more so after her death, when the townspeople refused to help the orphans of a town prostitute. He’s been protector and provider, despite the hardships. He’s learned that no one will help, no one cares and if he wants to survive he’ll have to rely on his own strength not just for himself but his family as well.

Then a stranger shows him the kindness and help no one else seems willing to. Between her kindness and the lecture she gives the Christian Leaders, Titus’s life takes an unexpected turn for the better. With help and provision from the local believers things should be easier, his burdens are lifted. So why does it feel like life is spinning out of control?

Can Titus learn that while man may fail him there is One who will never fail? Can he learn to allow God to be the Shepherd of his life and lead him? Or will life continue to push him every which way?

Character Spotlight

Name: Trevor Hine

Age: 8 (at beginning of the book)

Background:

Trevor was born to Clarice Hine on July 9, 1872. He had an older half-brother who became the only father-figure he knew for a while. He was a quiet child from birth, always thinking things through and trying to help out whenever he could.

When his sister was born, he helped Titus take care of her while their mother entertained her “guests.” His primary job was to keep her quiet.

Personality: Timid, shy, creative, probably INTP, loves to read

Personal Goal: To help his brother as much as possible

Blog Tour: Blessed Assurance by Faith Blum

BA Banner

Who doesn’t like a good mystery? I’m sure there are a few, but most people do like mysteries. What about a mystery within a mystery. Faith Blum’s new novella is just that. First there’s the mystery of who tried to dupe five mail order brides. Then Adelaide finds out someone is claiming she’s a runaway bride. What happens to her? Find out in Blessed Assurance.

About the Book

Blessed Assurance_FrontBlessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Adelaide lost her parents a year before and now a rich man in town is making unwanted advances toward her. Desperate, she writes to two men and quickly accepts the one from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Faith Blum started writing at an early age. She started even before she could read! She even thought she could write better than Dr. Seuss. Now that she has grown up a little more, she knows she will probably never reach the success of Dr. Seuss, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.

When she isn’t writing, Faith enjoys doing many right-brained activities such as reading, crafting, playing piano, and playing games with her family. One of her dreams is to visit Castle City, Montana, someday to see the ghost town she chose for her characters to live in. She currently lives on a hobby farm with her family in Wisconsin.

There are many ways to connect with Faith online. All of them can be found in one convenient place: http://FaithBlum.com. On her website you can find links to her various social media sites and both of her blogs as well as learn about any events she has coming up.

Excerpt

Detective Bradley Connor stepped off the train in Cheyenne and gathered his horse, saddle, and saddlebags from the cattle car. After stabling his horse at the livery and finding a hotel, he headed to the sheriff’s office.

“Are you the sheriff?” he asked the man behind the desk.

“I am. What can I do for you?”

“Bradley Connor. I’m a Pinkerton detective and I need some information from you.”

The sheriff sat up straighter. “Sheriff Leland Granger. I’ll certainly help in any way I can. What do you need to know?”

“Do you know of an Adelaide Brown?”

“Yes, I do. Surely she isn’t a criminal!” Sheriff Granger’s face was filled with horror.

“No, nothing like that. She simply ran away from someone and that person is looking for her. Could you tell me where she is staying?”

Sheriff Granger gave him an assessing look. “Why?”

“I need to speak with her alone. I have an uncomfortable feeling about the person who is looking for her and need to hear her side of the story first. Is she married?”

“No.”

Bradley leaned forward. “But she came out here as a mail order bride.”

“Yes, but she, and four others, were lured here by those ads. They were meant to be sold to saloons, but the outlaw’s plans were thwarted. Four of the five have now married. Adelaide is the only one who has not.”

“Why not?”

Sheriff Granger shrugged. “I don’t know. As for where she lives, she lives with Allen Reese and Edward Harris.” He gave Bradley the address. “But I would be careful about approaching her.”

Bradley nodded. “I will. Thank you.”

Bradley found the house and watched it carefully. It only took a few hours before he caught his first glimpse of her. She was truly as beautiful as his client had said she was. So why had she run away?
