Character Introduction: Haley Hampton

Haley Hampton

Happy Character Introduction Monday! The idea behind this post is just to spotlight the character a bit, give a little description of her personality, and for fun, a few books I’d recommend to her if I could. ^.^ Enjoy!

Haley Hampton; a young woman passionate to end human trafficking

Haley is a passionate and driven young woman who feels called to aid in the fight against human trafficking through her work as a cop.
She’s not one to give up at all – especially when it’s one of her family members who is in danger. She pursues the crime at all cost, determined to help, even if that means risking herself. She’s very admirable in this trait, in her passion.
Sometimes she acts with her heart before thinking through all of the concequences, but she’s understandable, and I think many in her position would do the same! I love how courageous and real Haley is. Find out more about her in book one, “Not Abandoned”!

Books I’d recommend to Haley:

“Visible Threat” by Janice Cantor – I think she’d especially like this one, as its main character is a cop and similarily fights a human trafficking ring.
“Priceless” by Tom Davis – Another book that deals with human trafficking, set in Russia – this would fuel her in her mission even more.
The Nikki Boyd series by Lisa Harris – Haley would definitely find interest in this heart-pounding series.
“Priceless” by Joel and Luke Smallbone – Just one more book about human trafficking that would urge Haley on.

“Just remember,” Haley turned to face her, “Don_t feel the need to hide your pain. It_s okay to take your time on this journey to recovery. Remember what we talked about before

Haley Hampton’s character can be found in both books, “Not Abandoned” and “Out of the Dark” by MacKenzie Morganthal. And don’t miss the Author Interview with MacKenzie Morganthal from last Monday!

Ahaha, I wish I got a book order that big! Wouldn’t want to pay for it though…ouch! XD

However, on a serious note: my 2 books I recently ordered online finally came yesterday!!! So happy! They are:

“Destiny Defended” and “Family Lies, Deadly Ties” both by  the wonderful J.A.Marx!!! I am so happy to complete my collection of The Destiny Series, and own a print copy of FLDT because it’s amazing. <3 And of course I had to take a couple pictures of my J.A. Marx book collection….

Aren’t they so pretty?! So happy! And here’s a pic of them on my shelf, because…obviously it’s needed:

It’s not the best picture, I know, but I blame it on our not-so-good camera. Anyway. I’ve placed them on my  ‘favourites’ shelf. :)

So, there we go. Just wanted to share my excitement!! Have you ordered any books recently? (Next on my list is “Samara’s Peril” by Jaye L. Knight!)

Book Review: “I Dare You” by Isabella Morganthal

This review has been a long time coming! And after you read it, don’t forget about the Writer’s Unite Contest posted about recently!

“I Dare You” by Isabella Morganthal

Nonfiction

My rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

About the book:

Bullying. Homelessness. Abortion. Human trafficking. It doesn’t take much searching to discover that there are a lot of things wrong in our world today. What could one person possibly do about all these issues? In I Dare You, Isabella Morganthal dares you to step out and make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. She helps you dig deep and discover your passion, while encouraging you to do something about it. This is a dare to give everything you have to Jesus and watch Him do amazing things with your life. This is a dare to make your life count. This is a dare to change your world.

My thoughts:

First I would like to say that I feel badly for not getting this review written sooner! This book was amazing, and impacted me a lot more than I expected.  It took me a bit of time to read through, but that is ONLY because I don’t read nonfiction nearly as quickly as fiction (I don’t know why. It’s just a ‘me’ thing…), and doesn’t reflect my thoughts on the book at all, because I really did love it and enjoy it.
And I can guarantee that because I finished it. :D (I confess I leave a lot of nonfiction unfinished unless I super like it).
I’ll start off by saying that I know the author, Isabella Morganthal, and she is an amazing, Godly person – so passionate in her beliefs and convictions.  I knew her passion would come through in her writing and indeed it has.
So yes, the book!
“I Dare You” is an inspiring, uplifting, and challenging book. One daring us to change our world by living on fire for Christ. Amen!  It’s full of godly insight, tips for Bible memorization (and I know that she is the queen of Scripture memorization!! :)), and SO much more. The short stories she includes are very touching as well and equaling challenging. This book will really make you think!
The author, has a passion that burns bright, and it vividly shows through this book. I applaud her passion and her Dare to her readers. She writes with such care, and I know you will take something away with you from this book. I highly encourage you to read it!

Blog Tour Wrap Up for “Not Abandoned” by MacKenzie Morganthal

Author MacKenzie Morganthal has written our wrap-up post for her lovely blog tour this past week, with a special sneak peek of her story – read on!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Welcome to the closing post for the “Not Abandoned” blog tour! I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this week, and it has been a blessing for me to see my book highlighted on all these other blogs. It has been a joy for me to give you all a peek into this story that is so close to my heart.

Out of all my “Not Abandoned” characters, Haley Hampton is the one I can relate to the most. (To read her character interview, click here!) She’s strong-willed and determined, and (more often times than not) she jumps into things without always thinking them through. As I was thinking about how to end this tour, I thought it would be fun to include a sneak peek into one of Haley’s scenes in this book:

Okay, I am going to sleep,” Anna said, closing her laptop and standing up. “You should too. You’re letting this affect you way too much. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Haley whipped her head up to stare at her friend. “Not a big deal? Anna, it’s huge. Who knows the heinous acts that this young girl is being forced into tonight? And here I am, a carefree college kid, able to sleep in her nice warm bed and eat a midnight snack.” She tossed her cereal on the counter and walked over to the door. Slipping on a pair of shoes, she called back over her shoulder, her blue eyes piercing through Anna, “I won’t just stand by and do nothing as long as I have the ability to do something.”

This is one of my favorite scenes because Haley’s last sentence is so powerful. I was once challenged to find my passion and the thing that breaks my heart the most, and then let it inconvenience me and make me uncomfortable enough to do something about it. And that challenge is the inspiration behind this scene. It is my prayer that through this book, other people will have the courage to stand up against the injustices in this world and speak the same words that Haley did.

In closing, I’d like to say another huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of this blog tour and to those who have been reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed this as much as I have. ☺

Book Review: “Not Abandoned” by MacKenzie Morganthal

Hello readers! Today, as part of the blog tour, I have a very special review – this book was recently published by “my very good friend Richard W. Cornvelt MacKenzie Morganthal”!! (Okay, so I admit I just used a quote from the kid show “Choo-Choo Bob” but since it is often on in my house, I can use it). But truly, I am so honoured to be able to review this gem! So, without further ado, read on for the review!

“Not Abandoned” by MacKenzie Morganthal

Review copy source: the Author

My rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

About the Book:

Human trafficking… These two words will change four different lives forever. Especially for Haley, a police officer in training, who is thrust right into the heart of an organized human trafficking ring when a family friend is mysteriously abducted. Once the problem hits even closer to home, Haley will stop at nothing to see justice prevail. With no way out once trapped inside the trafficking ring, is there any hope for rescue? When trouble arises and Caryn’s life is compromised, will she be able to survive or will help come too late? Strength is tested and trust is broken in this mystery of seemingly impossible rescue and God’s loving redemption. After hearing those words, human trafficking, these girls will never look at their lives the same way again… and neither will you.

My Thoughts:

I love this book. Truly I do. And I am not just saying that because I know and love the author like a sister. “Not Abandoned” is an amazing piece of art, showing the realism of Human Trafficking in a deep but gentle way. And there’s also a bit of a mystery to it! There were things I wasn’t even expecting. And even in my second read through of it, knowing the end, I was still reading as fast as I could, on the edge of my seat because it is that good.

You can tell that this book was entirely God-guided and I find that so remarkably powerful. His hand was through every page.
The story following these girls as victims of the sex-slavery pulled you right along – you hurt with them, you cried with them. And in the end, you hoped with them.
All of the characters were constructed very nicely. I think my favourite of the characters was Haley, the cop-in-training. I also really liked another character, but that person surprised us in doing something wrong. I won’t say who or give names, but that one was a favourite. I hope to see said character in the sequel!

Honestly, this book is hard to review because of the deep subject, but let me assure you it was handled with such grace while still exposing the terrible crime that is Human Trafficking. Millions of girls are in slavery, and I feel that this book helps give them a voice. This is a real thing, not to be handled lightly, and that is shown perfectly in “Not Abandoned”.

So I highly, highly recommend this book to older readers – I believe she has ages 14 and up – I might go a little higher than that, only because my little sister is so sensitive that I wouldn’t want her reading anything before she’s ready – but for others, 14 might be just fine :)   Anyway, I do suggest picking up this little gem!  It is definitely on my ‘favourites’ list!  (No bias, truly!)

And let me also just say, the cover is astounding! So perfect for the story and extremely eye-catching!

Congrats, Kenzie, and thank you for allowing me to read and review this fantastic book!

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review which I have given.
